Contrary to the "it's not all about winning" mantra that most of us were taught by our parents and also during sporting and performing arts activities at school, in the context of website speeds merely "taking part" sadly doesn't count.
In these ever-increasingly frenetic and busy Modern Times in which we live even the more patient of your prospective website visitors (and eventual customers) simply won't and don't hang around - if there is even the slightest wait for your site and content to appear on their devices. If your site snoozes, it is you who loses.
The B of the Bang
The good news is that websites built and hosted by myself @mounsey are typically rather speedy, right out of the blocks. I achieve this by using reliable hosting from market-leading supplier IONOS and also now exclusively host new client sites on pacy "VPS" servers. Yes, they're fast.
But as we know, modern technology never pauses for breath, so it is vital that your website isn't just fast - but it stays fast and gets faster still, wherever possible. To compound matters even further, with the incessant rise of AI, "fast" could arguably considered as being extinct. "Instant" is what many people expect - and in some cases demand.
On your marks... get set... GO!
I've been investing a lot of time over the Summer of 2026 exploring as many ways that I can further accelerate the performance of client websites - and also my own internal and side-gig sites. An interesting and at times daunting exercise, here are some of the key overtaking opportunities available (as jargon-free as I can make them):
- Database upgrades (I'm currently trialling a notably more recent version of the database systems my WordPress sites use)
- "PHP" upgrades (this is the programming language that WordPress is largely built on. Newer versions typically out-pace older ones)
- Server tuning (I've uncovered several small tweaks which collectively can make a big improvement to performance)
- Site-level boosts (when handled with care, things such as "caching" plugins can have a big impact - particularly for those returning to your site pages - but caching is merely scratching the surface)
... and much more! I'm being purposefully cautious by offering these optimisations in batches, thereby minimising any conflicts or other unexpected issues.
The chequered flag awaits…

Having received my latest stats round-up from Google earlier today, it seems that Google are also very much liking the improvements too – with some sharp improvements to visitor levels in particular.
